World Press Photo, una dintre cele mai importante organizații de fotojurnalism și fotografie documentară din lume, și-a desemnat câștigătorii concursului anual, la care au participat 5666 de fotografi din 124 de țări, juriul având de ales dintr-un număr de 103.481 de fotografii pe cele mai bune.
Personal, în anul 2010, am înscris în concurs câteva fotografii, vreo 30, nu din dorința de a câștiga vreun premiu, ci doar pentru a participa. În ultimii doi ani, din motive obiective, nu am mai avut timpul necesar pentru a face o selecție riguroasă a fotografiilor realizate, însă chiar dacă nu am participat, am păstrat un interes deosebit pentru acest concurs, în special pentru secțiunea Sport.
Marele premiu a fost câștigat în acest an de suedezul Paul Hansen, cu o fotografie din timpul înmormântării a doi copii din Gaza, uciși de rachetele israeliene (fotografia care ilustrează acest articol). Sincer, nu mă dau în vânt după astfel de evenimente cutremurătoare, motiv pentru care și evit de multe ori să vorbesc despre ele.
Revenind la sport, premiile la categoria Single, au fost adjudecate de trei fotografi asiatici (dintre cele trei fotografii premiate îmi place mai mult cea de pe poziția a treia), în timp ce, la categoria Story, Jocurile Olimpice de la Londra au ocupat locurile doi și trei, lăsând primul loc unui concurs de călărie din Cehia.
